Which Way Next?

“Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions. Watch your step, and the road will stretch out smooth before you. Look neither right nor left; leave evil in the dust.”Proverbs 4:25-27 (msg)

I woke up one morning with the word direction on my heart. What is direction? The dictionary has two definitions of it. 1. The course along which someone or something moves 2. The management or guidance of someone or something.

As I pondered this, I was reminded of a particular point in my life I received direction from someone else. It was nothing super spiritual, but I still had a choice whether to accept it or reject. That choice would either enable me to move forward, or keep me back. But I had the choice. The direction was really simple. It was “look where you want to go.”

I was learning to drive and there were so many distractions around me. Pedals, knobs and buttons not to mention all the other cars on the road. I was slightly overwhelmed, if I am honest, and this experience was a bit scary to me. My instructor helped me understand that where I focused my eyes would be where my hands would direct the car. He was right and it was so simple to hear, but my goodness, not necessarily to do!

The bible gives us similar direction. We are directed in God’s word to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). When we take one little next step focusing on Him we won’t go wrong.Proverbs 4:25-27 (msg) says “Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions. Watch your step, and the road will stretch out smooth before you. Look neither right nor left; leave evil in the dust.”
